Course Overview
This course provides an excellent introduction to the clinical presentation of concussions and post-concussion syndrome, as well as the underlying pathophysiology involved. Topics include: 1) Concussions and post-concussion syndrome (PCS) definitions, 2) Pathophysiology of concussions, 3) Immune dysregulation in concussions, 4) Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, 5) Symptomatic presentation of concussions and PCS, 6) Traumatic neck pain, 7) Intake: asking the right questions, 8) Case studies 9) Clinical gems
Course Objectives
- Understand the pathophysiology of concussions and why concussions are predominantly a functional disorder.
- Identify the different types of clinical presentations of post-concussion syndrome and what drives the symptomatology.
- Deepen awareness of chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
- Learn what the overlapping symptomatology of post-concussion syndrome and chronic traumatic neck pain.
